The Internet and the Library

"In this digital age, the custodians of published works are at the center of a global copyright controversy that casts them as villains simply for doing their job: letting people borrow books for free." (ZDNet quoted by "Publisher's Lunch on July 13, 2001) It is amazing that the traditional archivists of human knowledge - the libraries - failed so spectacularly to ride the tiger of the Internet, that epitome and apex of knowledge creation and distribution. Search.com--The Best Kept Secret On The Internet

A Dean Phillips fan (her words, not mine) wrote me an e-mail asking, if I hate Google, DMOZ and Yahoo! so much, why don't I recommend an alternative search engine? I had to laugh, because I've been receiving a lot of those types of e-mails lately. However, to set the record straight, I don't hate Google, DMOZ and Yahoo!. I really don't. Hate is such a ridiculous waste of energy. I do have problems with the way they conduct business--but hate them, no. My articles are merely an expression of my r...

Google Wireless - Search away from home

By Jakob Jelling http://www.sitetube.com For so many web surfers, it's almost automatic to type Google.com in to our address bar when we want to search. So big and well-known is Google that many browsers have a built-in search box or typed shortcut for Google searches. In fact, we tend to associate Google with search so much now that the word itself is commonly used as a verb, as in "let me Google that". It's much the same as Band-Aid, Kleenex, and Xerox, where the brand name is so pervasive tha...

Spyware attacks! Windows Safe Mode is no Longer Safe.

Spyware and virii are getting craftier. New methods allow them to boot up even when the user attempts to use safe mode; making them extremely hard to remove. People usually don't like my answer because accomplishing a "top ten ranking" on any search engine always requires careful thought along with a significant amount of work. Three types of "Search eng...

The Cathedral Church of the Holy and Undivided Trinity in Ely is known as the "Ship of the Fens", a name inspired by the distant views of its towers that dominate the low-lying wetlands called The Fens. Ely Castle

Ely Castle was in the cathedral city of Ely in Cambridgeshire.  Its probable site is a mound near the cathedral which is now called Cherry Hill.
